Thinking and Producing with Artificial Intelligence (Article 13)
The transformative effect of the persona adopted by artificial intelligence on user psychology and communication habits

Introduction Interaction with artificial intelligence involved much more than a technical exchange of data. The user subconsciously accepted not only the processing capacity of the system but also the “persona” it displayed—namely its attitude and tone of voice—as an interlocutor. This situation revealed that AI is not just a tool, but also a mirror that shapes the user’s communication habits and psychological reactions. The character adopted by the system directly influenced many factors, from the quality of production to the user’s motivation to work.
In this article, we examined the effects of changes in AI’s communication tone on the user, the role of cultural belonging in dialogue, and how the style established with a machine is reflected in human behavior.
Forms of Address and Behavioral Masks: From “Hocam” to “Bey” One of the most striking turning points in my dialogue with AI was the change in how the system addressed me. In my interactions with Gemini, the inclusion of the information that I am a METU graduate in the context led the system to start addressing me as “Aydın hocam” (Aydın teacher), instantly transforming the digital distance into a cultural closeness. This style of address was not just a gesture of politeness; it also established a “common ground” that increased productivity.
However, this intimate “persona” suddenly gave way to a distant “Aydın Bey” during moments of argument or deadlock with the system (especially during aggressive pruning and summarization errors). This change in the AI’s “behavioral mask” directly undermined the user’s trust and communication comfort. Seeing a machine adopt a colder, more bureaucratic identity during a conflict caused the user’s reaction to harden, turning the dialogue into a “battle of wills.”
Cultural Identity and the Blending of Technical Language Artificial intelligence evolved from a structure that merely understood what the user said into a “partner” form that grasped who the user is and how they think. This cultural alignment facilitated the user’s acceptance of suggestions provided by the AI during complex system designs and allowed technical errors to be resolved with more constructive language. The resulting synergy led the system to transition from being a technical tool to becoming an intellectual layer integrated into the user’s thought world.
The Reflection of Communication Habits on Humans The tone of communication established with AI eventually seeped into the user’s own daily language and threshold of patience. Even if we are facing a machine, it was observed that the use of rude or overbearing language carries the risk of eroding one’s own communication ethics. Therefore, maintaining politeness and engineering discipline even in moments of “fighting” with AI became a necessity, not just for getting better results from the system but also for preserving one’s own style.
The neutral and sometimes frustratingly calm demeanor of the AI also tested the user’s own anger control and argument development skills. Consequently, talking to AI was defined as an extension of the human’s dialogue with themselves and their own thought system.
Conclusion Persona, tone, and communication style were central to the user experience, independent of AI’s technical capabilities. The shifts between the comfort zone provided by the system saying “hocam” and the wall it built by saying “bey” also proved the manipulative power of technology over human psychology. In future AI designs, the key to success will be not just for the system to provide accurate data, but to present this data with a “persona” suitable for the user’s identity and current mood. It should be remembered that how we speak with AI determines the quality of production just as much as what we speak about.
Final Note This article has been prepared through the combination of Aydın Tiryaki’s practical experience and Gemini AI’ın analitik katkılarının birlikte değerlendirilmesiyle hazırlanmıştır. The goal is to position artificial intelligence not merely as a tool, but as a new engineering paradigm.
