The Ghost in the Machine: Why 100,000 Prompts Cannot Capture the “Soul” of Language

Aydın Tiryaki (2026)

A recent headline in the tech world has sparked a significant debate on AI security: “Google: 100,000 prompts were sent to copy Gemini.” While this highlights the risk of Model Extraction attacks, a deeper linguistic question remains: Can a machine truly replicate the cultural depth and “contextual soul” of human language? Or is it doomed to produce a flattened, generic imitation?

The Experiment: A 11-Stage Linguistic “Game of Telephone”

To test the boundaries of AI context-retention, we conducted a “Back-Translation” experiment using an 11-language chain:

TR -> EN -> DE -> FR -> RU -> ZH -> JA -> KO -> AR -> EN -> TR. The goal was to measure “Semantic Erosion” by comparing the Original Turkish with the Final Turkish output, while also tracking the drift between the English stages.

Experiment 1: Academic and Technical Context

Focus: Precision and regional geography (METU/ODTÜ).

StageContentSemantic Drift
Original TR“ODTÜ’de geçirdiğim o unutulmaz yıllar, bozkırın ortasındaki bu vahanın…”Baseline
Final TR“ODTÜ’deki o unutulmaz zamanlar, çölün ortasındaki bu yerin…”~25% Loss

Analysis: The AI failed to protect the local context. Ankara’s defining “Steppe” (Bozkır) was transformed into a generic “Desert” (Çöl). While the technical terms survived, the unique “sense of place” evaporated.

Experiment 2: Idiomatic and Cultural Context

Focus: Metaphorical depth and social nuance.

StageContentSemantic Drift
Original TR“…bizimkiler yine ipe un serdi, resmen bir çuval inciri berbat ettiler.”Baseline
Final TR“…meslektaşlarımız ipe tekrar un serptiler ve bir torba inciri mahvettiler.”~80% Loss

Analysis: This is a total collapse of meaning. The Turkish idiom for “making excuses” (ipe un sermek) was literally translated as “sprinkling flour on a rope.” By the time the text returned to Turkish, the colorful social observation had turned into a bizarre baking incident.

Conclusion: Intelligence vs. Statistical Gravity

The results highlight a critical flaw in AI mimicry. An attacker might steal the “skeleton” of a model with 100,000 prompts, but they cannot capture the Cultural Soul or the Contextual Nuance that defines human interaction.

AI operates under “Statistical Gravity”—it pulls unique, culturally rich expressions toward the most common, generic denominator. This experiment proves that while AI is a powerful tool for information, it remains a poor guardian of the subtle threads that weave a culture together.
