Digital Universal Libraries: The Eternal Heritage of Humanity

Aydın Tiryaki (2026)

Today, the internet has undertaken the mission of being the collective memory of humanity. However, this memory is under a severe threat due to the domain name systems that operate on a “leasing” basis and are restricted to 10-year periods. When a citizen passes away or ceases technical management, the works they have dedicated their lives to can vanish in an instant. This is not merely an individual loss; it is a cultural catastrophe.

Digital Title Deeds and Universal Rights

Domain names must no longer be treated as commercial commodities. They should be elevated to the status of a “Digital Title Deed,” recognized as an integral part of an individual’s intellectual personality. Every individual must have a digital space under international guarantee where they can house their intellectual heritage for eternity.

Digital UNESCO and International Guarantee

The preservation of information cannot be left to the mercy of political shifts, censorship, or economic crises. Therefore:

  • International Authority: A “Digital UNESCO” or a similar neutral supreme board must be established under the umbrella of the United Nations.
  • Universal Quota: A specific data quota, where every individual can store their articles, photographs, and ideas, must be defined for free as a “fundamental right.”
  • Eternal Access: The web addresses within these libraries must be kept online forever, with ownership belonging either to the public or the heirs.

The Bridge of Truth: Time-Locked Encryption

One of the most revolutionary functions of this system should be the “Digital Time Capsule.” Individuals should be able to entrust the system with evidence, documents, and information that may be sensitive to disclose today but are vital for lighting the way for future history, by encrypting them.

  • These encryptions, which open automatically on designated dates (e.g., 100 years later), will ensure that historical truths reach the future without undergoing any censorship.
  • While this mechanism establishes a “historical audit” over today’s administrators, it will nourish the libraries of the future with authentic information.

Conclusion

Digital Universal Libraries are not just data storage centers; they are sacred spaces where the digital soul of humanity is taken under protection. The heritage of an engineer, a writer, or an ordinary individual must be kept alive forever through public resources and international law. Ensuring uninterrupted access for future generations to this accumulation of knowledge is the greatest test of our digital civilization.
